October 8, 2011

For years I've watched my sister and my dad take an interest in photography. Not once did I ever think I would love photography as much as them, but as it turns out, I do. It wasn't until the fall of my junior year (this exact time last year) that I took an interest in photography like the two of them. Although my dad had bought me an awesome Nikon 90 camera for Christmas my sophomore year, I never really put it to use until Photo 1 started last fall, and I think it's accurate to say that I never put it down anymore. I take my camera everywhere and I take photos at every chance I get. (Except for the last few months since my camera has been off in another state being fixed...)

I took this photo of Keenen Crenshaw (a 2011 Ensworth graduate) for Photo 1 last year. The project was to focus on a specific color and I focused on the simplest of all colors: white. Mr. Plumb told me it would be a hard project, but this is one of the things I came up with. I owe a special thanks to Natalie Beaman and Keenen Crenshaw for helping me execute the idea. Without the two of them, this picture would have never been made possible.

I entered this photo into the 2011 Scholastic Art Competition the spring of last year and actually ended up receiving a award with 15 other photographers. With almost 900 works of art submitted from 30 area schools in the competition, it was an honor to win a Silver Key Award for Photography, especially as a Photo 1 student.

I'm posting this picture to tell all of you out there that it doesn't matter how little or how much experience you have in photography, but that anyone can be a photographer. If you take a picture that you love, post it in this blog and tell us what inspired you. Maybe you will even end up submitting it to the 2012 Scholastic Art Competition at the end of the year. You never know! The possibilities are endless.
